India's Vistara bumps A320neo backlog as int'l ops beckon
Vistara (UK, Delhi Int'l) has ordered two more A320neo from Airbus (AIB, Toulouse Blagnac) as part of preparations to begin international flights.
Parent firm Tata Group said in a statement marking the induction of the carrier's twentieth aircraft that the additional A320neo would deliver by June of this year. With a fleet of thirteen A320ceo and seven A320neo, Vistara is now eligible to start international services which, Chief Executive Officer Leslie Thng said in January, would likely start during the second half of 2018.
“This is not just another addition to our fleet, but a landmark one that signals Vistara’s arrival on the global map and marks the beginning of our next phase of growth," Thng said.
Although the full-service carrier has yet to officially specify which routes it intends to serve, Thng has hinted that initial foreign coverage will entail regional destinations located within two to four hours' flying time from the carrier's Indian bases.
A 51/49 joint venture between Tata Group and Singapore Airlines, Vistara currently serves 22 destinations across India with Delhi Int'l its primary hub.
