Airbus Updates No.277

Orders & deliveries

The month in review: May 2011

Airbus delivered 50 new jetliners to customers in May – including three A380s, while adding seven single-aisle and widebody aircraft to its orderbook during the month.
The new orders were five A330-200s for Korean Air and Star Flyer’s two A320s, bringing Airbus year-to-date gross orders in 2011 to 176.
Korean Air’s latest contract increases the total number of A330s ordered by this Seoul-based carrier to 30, while the Star Flyer booking for two A320s is the fast-growing value-based Japanese airline’s very first aircraft purchase – building on a growing fleet of leased A320s.
The 50 aircraft deliveries in May were paced by 38 A320 Family aircraft, including the initial A319 received by the S.A.T. holding of Berlin-based German carrier Germania.  Another new operator is Holidays Czech Airlines, whose first A320 was provided via GECAS.
Widebody deliveries in May were composed of nine A330s, received by Air Lease Corporation for Alitalia, Aircastle Advisor for South African Airways, Avianca, Cathay Pacific, Etihad Airways, Malaysia Airlines, Oman Air, TAM – Linhas Aereas and Turkish Airlines.  The month’s three A380s were provided to Lufthansa and Air France, along with Korean Air – positioning this Korean carrier to become the sixth operator of Airbus’ 21st century flagship jetl
